In 1966, something extraordinary happened above a suburban Melbourne school - and for decades, the witnesses were told to stay quiet.
This episode features Joy Clarke, one of approximately 300 students and teachers who witnessed the infamous Westall UFO Incident. During recess at Westall High School, Joy watched as three silver metallic disc-shaped craft with a raised hump on top hovered and darted across the sky with impossible speed and manoeuvrability. These were not aircraft anyone had ever seen before.
For the full duration of recess, students and staff stood frozen in disbelief as the objects moved silently above the school grounds before descending toward nearby paddocks. Then came the part witnesses would never forget within minutes, military personnel arrived on scene. Areas were barricaded off, soil samples were reportedly taken, and landing sites were burned the next day.
What followed was years of intimidation, ridicule and denial. Students and residents were told they had seen nothing more than a weather balloon. Men in dark suits allegedly visited witnesses, warning them not to speak publicly about what they had seen.
Sixty years later, Joy shares her firsthand account of one of Australia’s most compelling and controversial UFO encounters.
